About Jerry
Jerry Smith is our Peace Corps Recruiter on campus. Jerry served in the Peace Corps as an Agricultural Statistician in Niger, West Africa. He worked with local farmers, helping them optimize their harvests of the four major crops grown in Niger.
Jerry also worked with agronomists, agricultural economists, and various other researchers to do statistical analysis on these major food crops. Working with the National Agricultural Institute of Niger, Jerry trained local university students how to use computers to help them be more productive and conduct their own crop research.
Jerry also served with CARE International after the Peace Corps, in Sudan, doing agricultural computer work for their government agricultural institute. He has a BS in Agricultural Business Management and an MA in Computer-Based Education from California Polytechnic State University. He has taught computer science courses at Cal Poly and conducted many computer workshops on database management, statistical analysis, and data visualization. Jerry resides in Sedro-Woolley, Washington and enjoys traveling internationally, running, hiking, and bicycling. He also enjoys reading historical biographies and playing chess.
